I.R. Berent 2
The I.R. Berent 2 well was drilled in 2009 in the AR/PAS/4251 license area of the XII Gaziantep District. The well site is app. 5 km SE of the Bozova village. The targets were the Karabogan and the Mardin Group's carbonates in this well. The well location of the I.R. Berent 1 well is situated in the downthrown block of the regional strike-slip Bozova fault which is orientated in the NW-SE direction. The Upper Cretaceous Karabogan formation, with its cherty facies was encountered at 1480 (-824) meters. Karababa-B is at 1510 (-844) and Karababa A is at 1538 (-872) meters, while the Derdere is at 1548 (-882) meter depths.
Although the main exploration objectives were the above formations, the poorly defined Saytepe formation has been the main oil producer in the region. During the drilling operations, oil shows in many intervals and a loss in circulation at 1380 (-714) meters depth have been encountered. Well site observations did not indicate any encouraging results and for this reason, the I.R. Berent 2 well was abandoned as an oil show well in 2009.
