History
Polmak Sondaj Sanayii Anonim Sirketi (Polmak Sondaj) was established by Refii Samim Berent in 1977. Polmak pioneered the Turkish Diamond Core Drilling Contracting Industry by importing 6 Core Drilling Rigs from the USA, at a time when Diamond Core Drilling for Mineral Exploration and Major Infrastructure Projects in Turkey were performed exclusively by Government Entities such as MTA, DSI and EIEI. Polmak Sondaj quickly established itself as the premier Diamond Core Drilling Contractor in Turkey, and held this position for multiple decades.
By the early 2000's; Polmak Sondaj's sister company Polmak Makine Imalat Anonim Sirketi (Polmak Makine); the largest Diamond Core Drilling Bit Manufacturer in the Middle East; had expanded its' production capabilities to include Core Barrells, Drill Rods, and all other consumables for the Diamond Core Drilling Industry. As a result, Polmak Sondaj discontinued Diamond Core Drilling Contracting activities in order to avoid direct competition with Polmak Makine's customers and refocused its business towards Oil & Gas Drilling Operations.
Polmak Sondaj started its Oil & Gas Drilling Operations in 1987 as the Prime Contractor for the Thrace Basin Natural Gas Co.'s operations in the Thrace area of Turkey. Polmak has since operated in various regions of Turkey, Kazakhstan, and Iraq. During the 1990's, Polmak Sondaj operated 4 workover rigs in Kazakhstan's Uzen Oil field and completed the workover of over 500 wells. Before the 2003 Iraq war, Polmak drilled the first successful well in the Tak Tak field of Northern Iraq, for Genel Energy. Polmak has since continued its contract drilling operations in the Turkish market, and is currently in possession of 3 rigs.
