I.R. Berent 1
The I.R. Berent 1 exploration well was drilled in 1995 in the AR/PAS/2910 license area of the XII Gaziantep district. The wellsite is situated between the cities of Gaziantep and Kilis, near the village of Kazikli.
The objective of this well was to test the Oil production possibilities of the Karabogan, Karababa, and Derdere formations. The Karabogan formation was reached at 1265(-611) meters depth while the Mardin Group's Karababa-C unit is situated at 1304 (-650) meters. During the drilling operation in these units, abundant amounts of heavy oils were recovered at the shale shaker. Oil shows were observed in drilling cutting as well as core sections.
The I.R. Berent 1 is situated on a SN-NE oriented structural trend. The TPAO Yanankoy wells, situated 10km SW encountered oil of 18-20 degree API gravity while the I.R.Berent 1 oil has only 11-12 degree API gravity. No gas indication exists in the Heavy oil, rendering the production impossible with no increase in porosity or permeability despite vast quantities of HCL acid being squeezed into the carbonate reservoir. The I.R. Berent 1 well was thus abandoned in 1991, as a heavy oil well.
